Notwithstanding the fact that the Beatles hit the big time in Hamburg, there were many events before that of historic importance. One such event was Hamburg's "Culture and Sports Week" celebration in 1921. It was the perfect uplift for the German population which was experiencing a post-WW1 Depression. These is the actual original currency Hamburg issued to commemorate the event whose dates are displayed on each note. It is one of the standouts in the field of German Notgeld (small change money issued by municipalities). The front of every note depicts a nude runner holding aloft the laurels of victory before an Olympian column. The back of each displays century old sepia tone views of old Hamburg, Germany's foremost port city, emblazoned with the colors of the erstwhile German Empire! Many of the views are maritime including that of a massive steamer and that of the shipbuilding district with cranes and drydocks as far as the eye can see. The currency is signed by the Manager of the fair and only valid for 28-40 days, which makes them all quite elusive. The notes were issued in 3 series - A (3 notes on the left), scarce - B (3 notes on the right), very scarce - and C (2 notes in the last scan), rare! The C series has silver and gold foil highlights (the runner, border and reverse denominations have a shine that is brighter than it appears in the scan).
