They are intended solely for use by medical professionals who will know how to correctly interpret the results. They are packed in the standard sealed tube as shown above and each tube contains 100 strip tests. The tests will have at least 6 months to expiry. What results will I get? These strips are meant for medical professionals and they will fully understand the purpose of this test and how to interpret the result as these strips are standard urinalysis Ketone strip tests usually used by those persons suffering from diabetes. Effectively any abnormal result for Ketones will require further investigation unless the likely cause of the positive result is already known. These strips are usually used by visual colour comparison for any abnormal result but can also be used with almost all standard automatic reader/urinalysis equipment. Professional Reagent Area Information The test reacts with acetoacetic acid in urine. It does not react with acetone orB-hydroxybutyric acid. Some high specific gravity/low pH urine may give reactions up to and including "Trace". Clinical judgement is needed to determine "Trace" results. Normal urine specimens usually yield negative results. Detectable levels of ketone may occur in urine during physiological stress conditions such as fasting, pregnancy and frequent strenuous exercise. In ketoacidosis, starvation or with other abnormalities of carbohydrate or lipid metabolism, ketone may appear in the urine in large amounts before serum ketone is elevated. False positive results (Trace) may occur with highly pigmented urine specimens or those containing large amounts of levodopa metabolites. Compounds such as Mesna that contain sulphydryl groups may cause false positive results or an atypical colour reaction.
