Complete with final errata leaf. With the dedication to the Earl of Clarendon. Prynne published his first 'brief register' in 1559, before issuing two more parts in 1660 and 1662. This is the fourth part. William Prynne was a lawyer, author, polemicist and political figure. He was an opponent of William Laud's church policy. At the time of writing this work, Prynne was an Erastian, arguing for state control over religious matters. He was a proponent of punitive and financial measures and wished to disband the army. All of these writs have been collected and illustrated with useful annotations and observations for 'the information, benefit of the present age and posterity'. Prior owner's inscription to the front pastedown, 'Giles Shaw'. Written to the front pastedown is 'It is said nearly all the copies of this the 4th vol perished in the Great Fire of London'. CONDITION In a near contemporary calf binding. Rebacked, with the original boards preserved. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the boards. Prior owner's inscription to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with occasional scattered spots to pages.
