Area of loss along hinges with binding exposed. Seven compartment spine beautifully crafted with raised bands and nice gold finishing. Top spine extreme chipped with headpiece exposed. Old hand ownership on front paste down. Text block evenly toned with light foxing. Free of known marginalia. Binding tight and intact. Please see photos. Giovanni Stefano Menochio (1575 - 1655) was an Italian Jesuit biblical scholar. After entering the Society of Jesus in 1594, he began training and teaching the classics, and became professor of sacred scripture and then of moral theology at Milan. Thereafter he began his long life of superiorship. He was successively superior of Cremona, Milan, and Genoa, rector of the Roman College, assistant of Italy and admonitory to the Fathers-General Vincenzo Carafa and Francesco Piccolomini.
