Description: A fine landscape engraving after Marco Ricci (here 'Marci Ricci pinxit'), with the publisher's imprint "London. Printed and Sold by Henry Roberts, Engraver and Printseller near Hand Alley facing Great Turnstile, Holborn."The print was "Publish'd according to Act of Parliament November the 1st. 1749." The engravers are listed as "Hen. & James Roberts Sculp." In 1730, a volume containing 53 such landscapes by Ricci had been published in Venice, "Varia Marci Ricci Pictoris Prestantissimi Experimenta." This one was published in London.Ricci (1676 - 1730) was an Italian painter who spent some time in England. The sheet of this engraving has a fine watermark - see the last photo. Henry Roberts is perhaps better known for his music publishing. He has the distinction of being the first printer to suffer a charge of infringement of intellectual copyright - by Thomas Arne. The matter was settled out of court. Size: the sheet measures 34cms x 23.5cms.Condition: Cut close to the edges, but otherwise in a good condition.
