SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 19 x 15 cm , 7.5 x 6 inches (medium) plus margins with a blank back. ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by William Watts (1752-1851) and drawn by Sandby. Paul Sandby RA (1731 – 9 November 1809) was an English map-maker turned landscape painter in watercolours, who, along with his older brother Thomas, became one of the founding members of the Royal Academy in 1768. Watts was an engraver and publisher, a pupil of Sandby and Edward Rooker. PROVENANCE: Engraving from Paul Sandby's 'The Virtuosi's Museum, Containing Select Views in England, Scotland, and Ireland', published by George Kearsley , published 1777 - 1783. TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on paper. VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank. CONDITION: Good; suitable for framing. It is both a Royal Peculiar, a church under the direct jurisdiction of the monarch, and the Chapel of the Order of the Garter. It is located in the Lower Ward of the castle. St. George's castle chapel was originally founded in the 14th century by King Edward III and extensively enlarged in the late 15th century.
