Paul Sandby RA (1731 – 9 November 1809) was an English map-maker turned landscape painter in watercolours, who, along with his older brother Thomas, became one of the founding members of the Royal Academy in 1768. PROVENANCE: This print was published in 'The Antiquarian repertory: a miscellaneous assemblage of topography, history, biography, customs, and manners. Intended to illustrate and preserve several valuable remains of old times. Chiefly compiled by, or under the direction of Francis Grose, Thomas Astle and other eminent antiquaries'. London : Printed for the proprietors and sold by F. Blyth, J. Sewell, and T. Evans, 1775-1784. TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on paper.
