Description: 1794 1/2 penny Conder token of Suffolk-Ipswich, an issue of James Conder. The obverse shows from Ipswich, an ancient Market Cross, with a figure of Justice on top, facing, with scales and a sword in hand. All this on the four column building. The reverse, in six lines, shows "PAYABLE AT CONDER'S DRAPERY WAREHOUSE IPSWICH". James Conder was an active collector, and was one of the first people to catalog 18th century, independent minted copper trade coinage. His reference remained the primary one until the late 1800's, and his name is the basis for the general category name of all these types of tokens. Both sides are medium to dark brown color and show some typical for the age and circulation, small marks. There are a few small, miscellaneous dark color spots.
