Description: John Moore was a Scottish doctor hired in 1769 to attend and travel with the 15-year-old Duke of Hamilton. the young Duke succumbed to consumption, but several years later, Moore was asked to attend to the next Duke and accompany him on his Grand Tour as “bear leader”. In 1792, he travele with the Earl of Lauderdale who had been involved in two affairs of honor and who was advised to leave England for a time. During this visit, Moore witnessed many of the events of the French Revolution including the attack on the Tuileries and the September Massacres.
