In fair condition. Original leather boards scuffed at edges & worn/bumped at corners. Head of Vol. I's spine lacking. Tails of both spines are worn at hinges & rubbed. General soiling and toning to boards. Title label on Vol. I's spine incomplete - about half lacking. Vol. II's title label is chipped around edges, but still legible. Gilt ruling and numbering moderately dulled, but still legible. Previous provenances found at both heads of title pages: "Marshal W. G." in Vol. I and "Tho. B. Anderson, Jopping Castle, 1850". Vol. II includes a second signature on front fly-leaf: "Lizzie Anderson, 1871". Moderate toning and age-staining throughout text-blocks. Pencil scribbling found on paste-downs. Water dampness staining around edges of Vol. II: from approximately p. 111 to end of text. A complete set. Binding intact - hinges fragile.
