A very scarce work. With a half-title. Illustrated with six monochrome plates. 'La Botaniste Sans Maitre' is Rousseau's exposition of the Linnaeus system of the classification of plants, comprising of a selection of letters. This work is Rousseau's 'Letters on the Elements of Botany' under a different title. This edition was continued by Joseph Philippe de Clairville, a notable French botanist and entomologist. Jean-Jacques Rousseau is one of the most noted philosophers of his time, with his works influencing the progression of the Enlightenment in Europe. CONDITION In a half straight grain morocco binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Light fading to the boards. Minor rubbing to the boards and spine. A little bumping to the extremities. A couple of marks to the front board. Lacking front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with some spots. Loss to the half-title, not affecting text. Prior owner's ink inscription to page 1 and 160.
