Comedic in tone the novel was incredibly popular, and saw numerous imitations. The bookplate of William Marshall to the front pastedown. An interesting work which reveals the social and political state of Europe in the early 19th century. CONDITION Rebacked with the front and rear boards and backstrip preserved. In an attractive diced calf binding, with gilt detailing to spine and to the front and rear boards. Externally, generally smart. Light rubbing to the spine, and to the extremities. Small mark to the tail of the rear board, with very small ink spots to the head of the front board. Very light offsetting to the front and rear pastedowns. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are clean with the odd spot.
