Mathew Carey (1760-1839) was an Irish-American publisher and cartographer active in Philadelphia. He started his printing firm in 1794 after immigrating to the United States from Ireland. His "American Atlas", published in 1795 was the first atlas of the United States. He retired in 1822, after which his son Henry C. Carey and son-in-law Isaac Lea took over the business.
