Description: An EARLY ANTIQUE TEKKE TURKOMAN SIX-GUL TORBA (tent bag), Central Asian tribal, Turkmenistan, Circa 1825-1850, and coming in good overall condition for the collector specialist. The exact size is: 1'-6" x 3'-10" (46 x 117 cm). Six crisp and spaciously drawn "chuval" guls with some of the bird heads having double crests, an indicator of early age, and "chemche" secondary guls adorn the field on this rare and early Turkmen tent bag weaving. Note that the weaver has added magenta silk highlights in the main Tekke-gul ornaments (see close up photos 7, 8, and 9). This velvety to the handle textile artifact is all wool in construction with plant-derived natural dyes including a light sea blue, an Irish green, a canary yellow and tangerine (see close up photo 11). The sides are original and complete showing some minor abrasion. Both the top and the bottom endings have been slightly reduced. The bottom ending shows some remnants of the original multi-colored fringe embellishments (see photo 11). The weaving has one area showing slight wear to the top center gul (see photo 5), otherwise it comes in fairly good original condition for its extreme age with allover good, albeit low, but not worn, pile (see photo 12). A very unusual design aspect witnessed on this particularly lovely and very old specimen is the weaver's choice to decorate the side borders with the same flowering plant motifs that were used for the top frieze panel and the bottom elem panel as most other published Tekke Turkmen 6-gul torba in the rug book literature display side borders that are unadorned. Just a glowing little jewel of a weaving. If you have any questions about this antique Tekke Turkmen 6-gol torba, email Michael Phillips or feel free to call 303 8857599. Please take a little extra time to review the other fine antique weaving of merit that I have posted in my eBay Store and do remember to bookmark my eBay seller ID: imokub2 (I am okay, you be too) to your "favorite sellers" list to see my future offerings having this antique age, beauty, condition, and collectible qualities. NOTICE: ALL of my eBay listings come with an unconditional 100% money back refund guarantee (including ALL s/h/ins. fees) if for ANY reason the winning bidder is not happy with their antique oriental rug or textile art purchase from me. ADDENDUM : Note the double crested bird heads in the top left gul and one double crested bird head on the gul to next to it = A clear clue for the discerning collector that this specimen is of a very early production.
