Description: French tissue stereoview of the Green Room of the White House, believed to be during the Lincoln Administration. Produced in Paris by Florent Grau under the pseudonym “G.A.F.” C. 1861-64, 3-1/4” x 6-5/8”. Hand-colored, as you can see from the photograph of the reverse. Overall good, with some rubbing and wear to mount. Small puncture to bottom of image on right. Light markings to rear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. An extremely scarce tissue stereoview by Florent Grau, who was active in Paris from around 1855 to 1864. French “hold to light” tissue stereoviews were popular throughout much of the 1860s and 1870s, and utilized very thin sheets of albumen paper, exposed backs, and small holes to help create special effects within the images. Due to their fragile nature, far fewer have survived into the present day than their normal strereoview counterparts. aj0320
