Description: Up for sale is a set of antique 1860's Rogers Bros 6" fiddle spoon set. Includes a very old "Rogers. Bro's" maker mark, and the words "Sold in Albata." Both marks are rare and not referenced in any known flatware reference book, or online, save discussions about the marks. Typically unmarked fiddle spoons are coin silver, but the consensus among collectors is this is indeed albata (a type of metal made of nickel, copper, and zinc). Note: the closest maker mark I could find was in the New Hampshire Historical Society site, which displays a monogrammed fiddle spoon made by "Rogers Bro's" and "A1." Very similar, save the absence of the period between Rogers and Bro's. If a match, that would place this spoon's origin in Hartford, CT.
