Leeds, this volume comprises William Chambers' treatise on Civil architecture, and Joseph Gwilt's discussion of Grecian architecture. With sixty six plates in total, collated and complete. Originally published in 1759, Chamber's treatise on civil architecture was influential on builders of the eighteenth century. Rather than dwell on details of construction and planning, the work offers suggestions for decorative architectural elements. Alongside Gwilt's examination of Grecian architecture, the work also includes ideas from the works of many 16th- and 17th-century Italian architects that were little known in Britain at the time.
