Description: Offering one of my very nice antique treadle from the Civil War period,I am sure this treadle over, 160 years old, has been repainted at least once. I have been a collector of these small Chain Stitchers for several decades. It is just a tad shorter than the post 1872 version and came originally with one of the rarer Willcox & gibbs Glass Tension Machine's. This model is depicted by it's verticel rope twist up the center of the legs and it's delicate looking filigree butterfly pedal and wood pitman arm. As people were shorter it measures 28" tall. The castings of the legs are somewhat heavier than the version 2 style cast iron's from this company. These were sold as ornate as they were both as early industrial's and as household sewing machine's. They sewed Civil War uniforms during the 1960's , closed farm grian sacks as well as for home fabric goods. If you plan to place it back into use I do have appropriate top boards and this can be discussed. I have shipped many treadls and would never ship one screwed together. This on has hex head nuts and reqires very few to put back together once out of the box.
