Description: Post Civil War Record of Steamer USS EOLUS in Commercial Use Wm Hicks 1867 Rcpt. USS EOLUS was a 368-ton side wheel steamship that served in the Union Navy from 1864 to 1865 before becoming a commercial steamship. A receipt dated March 2, 1867 to merchants Miller & Jarvis for freight in the amount of $.60 Probably Baltimore. I have other receipts to W. S. Miller & Jarvis for merchandise from wholesale dealers in Baltimore and Norfolk. Great piece of Naval & Maritime history from 1867. I believe William Hicks was assistant to Jas. W. White the Baltimore, MD tailor.
