Description: NGC AU55 1880, unattributed VAM 1a2 Knobbed 8. Graded by NGC as AU55, but it is unattributed having been just graded for appearance. I believe this to be under-graded, as it exhibits no salient marks; wear is slight and almost not apparent except perhaps just over the ear and the very highest parts of the coin. Definitely not cleaned - no micro scratches or signs of cleaning. Fields are clean. Just enough handling to diminish the luster. The reverse shows slight half-moon toning. See pictures. This is a Top 100 WOW! coin. The crack from rim to neck is visible without magnification. It is earlier die state, as the knob is not yet fully developed but is apparent. Included in pictures is an excerpt from VAMWorld where the minimum requirement for assignment of the 1a2 attribution is defined. The wreath break on the reverse is crisp. See pictures. This is a nice coin and deserving of consideration for break out and regrade with attribution.
