Description: This Rare large advertising trade card from 1884 features the charming image of kittens in a basket with “Express Delivery” text at center of basket. The advertising is for the iconic brand name of The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. The backside of the card lists branch houses in the United States affiliated with A&P.The company began in New York City in 1859 as the Great American Tea Company; it opened a tea shop in Manhattan on Front Street in 1860. They expanded to five New York City stores by 1865 and also offered coffee, spices, condensed milk, flavoring extracts, and baking powder; the name was changed to the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company.Approximately 7.5” x 7.5”Some discoloration on the back and there is some corner wear. The card is a perfect addition to any collection of Victorian trade cards or advertising memorabilia. I have not cleaned this item aside from a light dust off. Light soiling, dust, old age toning, dents, paint loss could be present along with other minor wear consistent with age. Please view all the photos as the are intended to be part of the description and ask any questions you may have prior to bidding. I’m always willing to take additional photos or answered detailed questions. ***Please stay tuned for new auction listings every Sunday, fresh from local Maine estates. If you are interested in an item bid early as people often forget and miss out on items. I will not end listings early for any reason so please do not ask. The volume of items is too many to list but overall the areas covered are vintage toys, postcards, games, advertising related items, tins, dolls and other collectibles.***
