Description: Map of Pierce County (with) City Plans of Ashland (Ashland Co.) and Shawano (Shawano Co.), Wisconsin by H. R. Page & Co., Chicago: H. R. Page & Co., 1881 Double-sided hand-colored lithographic maps removed from an H. R. Page & Co. Wisconsin State atlas showing civil townships; survey township, range and sections; cities and towns; wagon roads; railroads and railroad stations; lakes and rivers; post offices; and churches and schools, all as they existed in 1881. In addition to basic detail, Page's maps also occasionally show places of local interest, including mills, factories, foundries, mines, ferries, hotels, breweries, etc., even the names of some residents (please review the photographs to view the specific features of these particular maps). The county boundaries shown coincide with that of present-day Pierce County (old maps sometimes show unfamiliar county boundaries or territory belonging to a current county caused by subsequent formation of new counties). Map size: 17 x 12 3/4 inches (Pierce side); 16 3/4 x 12 3/4 inches (city plan side) at neatlines. Condition: Light age toning and a few small marginal spots else clean and very good. An attractive set of maps with much historical and decorative appeal.
