Description: THE PROGRESSIVE AGES, Or The Triumphs of Science, and Treasures of Nature, History and Literature. Compiled by Prof. H. L. Harvey IllustratedSold by Subscription Only. Philadelphia and Chicago. J. A. Ruth & Co. 1883 Book measures approx. 6 3/8" x 8 1/4" x 5/8"Common at the time this salesman's copy was used to give people a preview of the book and entice them to order it. It contains excerpts from the forthcoming book. This is a beautiful copy with black, blind stamped boards and gilt titles, filled with fantastic illustrations. The corners are bumped and there is shelf wear at the head and foot of the spine. There is a small spot where the colored paper of the front paste down is gone, with a corresponding mirror image on the front free end paper. The rear end paper is gone, possibly because of removal of order pages. The rear hinge has been repaired, with traces of glue on the rear paste down. Someone has written, in pencil, on the title page that this is a "sample book" (possibly Joseph Sadony?). Foxing throughout. This book is from the Estate of Joseph A. Sadony. His library stamp is on the first blank page and the verso of the frontis. Joseph Sadony is someone you should Google. He was a Friend of Teddy Roosevelt, Admiral Byrd, many Hollywood stars, Einstein, Ghandi and many others including royalty. He was psychic advisor to Chicago Police and wrote among other things "Gates of the Mind, the Proven Psychic Discoveries of Joseph Sadony". Joseph died in 1960 at 83 years of age and many of the books we are listing are from the 30,000 that were left in his estate.
