Description: You are looking at an incredibly rare 50 card set of 1888 Allen & Ginter Champions of the World N43's. The set is universally acknowledged as the most beautiful and rare card set from the Victorian period. You are laying eyes on the first complete graded set to come to market in 13 years! Some of the individually graded cards are available on the open market, but acomplete set cannot be had at will, no matter how much money one is willing tospend. At any given moment, only a small percentage of the cards are available, and the remainder take many years to return to market. I know from personal experience that this set takes over a decade to collect, which is why it is almost never completed. I chose SGC to grade the cards, as they have the most experience with this set. In retrospect, it was a strategic error on my part. For one, they were particularly hard on a handful of cards, for reasons I will explain in further detail if you are a serious buyer and contact me directly. Suffice it to say, the grades can only go up from here, which is awesome given how well the cars look at present. They have very high eye appeal, just a stunner of a set. They will present as the crown jewel of any well displayed vintage card collection. Secondly, there are zero completed sets in PSA's registry! Literally, ZERO. Meaning if these cards are swapped into PSA slabs, you would be holding a PSA POP 1 (yours!) of the only completed 1888 Allen & Ginter Champions of the World set. Time to dial up Sotheby's! Speaking of that, that's exactly what I did. Both Sotheby's & Heritage have shown a high desire to auction the collection. Heritage would like to feature the collection in this winter's "Platinum" auction, with a full 2-page spread in their well distributed print catalog. So why do I have this one-of-a-kind set listed on Ebay with really low quality photo's that I snapped in my backyard? For one, I put my heart and soul into putting this set together and would love to have personal interaction with the buyer. In a sense, I would like to guide the cards to a good new home. Two, listing the cards in a high-quality auction will result in both increased expense on my end (high quality photos, sellers fee) but an even greater increase in expense for the buyer (20% premium, state taxes, shipping, processing fees....ouch!). I know I loathe the upcharge I receive when I am the buyer, so I am offering a passionate buyer a chance to sidestep some of the trappings of a high-end auction. A full listing of all 50 cards, with accompanying grades and photos, will be provided upon request. The POP report for these cards is highly desirable but jumps to true rarified air when compared to the low POP numbers in PSA’s system. Keep them as they are, in gorgeous new SGC slabs, and just bask in their glory. Or have fun swapping them into PSA slabs and potentially jump their value up even further. Either option is an awesome position to be in. One of a kind sets are where it’s at in the collecting world, as “the good stuff always remains good.” (this is a limited time listing, so reach out promptly if you are interested)
