Description: CHARLES MARTINS by P. MAGNUS (Paul Wilhelm Magnus). A three page (printed on 2 leaves) biography of Charles Martins, important French evolutionary botanist who was a correspondent and translator of Charles Darwin. Printed by Blochmann und Sohn, Dresden, Germany. Undated but circa 1890. A separately printed reprint from the journal Leopoldina, Volume XXVI, Number 3-4, 1890. THREE PAGES on TWO LEAVES. Text in German. POOR condition. The single fold sheet (to make 4 pages) has split down the fold so that there are now 2 separate leaves. The pages have a horizontal fold across the center. The first page has tape reinforcement / repair across its horizontal folds; the tape has darkened making the words beneath the tape difficult to read (the words can all still be read upon close examination). The blank last page also has tape reinforcement / repair across its horizontal fold. There is edge wear including chips, tears and corner creases; 4 of the tears are 1 inch. There is foxing overall. Scarce. OCLC shows only 4 copies of this 3 page document printed by Blochmann. The copies are held at the University of Bern, the University of Strasbourg, the Museum of Natural Science in Trento Italy, and the LuEsther T. Mertz Library at the New York Botanical Garden.
