Crafted in the 1890s by noted dollmaker Jumeau, this lovely doll is 32" tall with a beautifully painted bisque porcelain head, original cork pate, and jointed composite body. This doll has large brown glass "paperweight" eyes and has an open mouth with teeth. She wears a wig made of human hair, not original to the doll but crafted to fit her head. The doll is marked with an incised number 15 and "Tete Jumeau" in red on the back of her head. An additional original paper label reading "Bebe Jumeau" is still affixed to the back of the body. This doll was owned by noted doll collector and clothing maker Agnes McDonald, who was locally known for crafting doll clothes from antique fabrics. A note on this doll's white underskirt gives you the provenance of this outfit, which includes fabric from an antique handbag and antique lace. This little lady is dressed in a pink dress with appropriate undergarments and lace overlay. She wears an elaborate pink silk hat with lace, feathers and flowers. She will be professionally packaged and placed in a large sturdy box for safe transit. She will be fully insured as reflected in shipping cost. A most wonderful addition to any collection! CONDITION: The doll presents well and is in very good antique condition, with minor display wear and patina commensurate with age. Her head shows minor surface wear but no chips, cracks or other damage. The body has several repainted/surface repaired areas, as well as minor chips and loss of finish. Her head has the original cork pate, which has been glued in. Cork has fractures but appears stable. Outfit has wear, some spots, and fading; hat is fragile with loose flowers. No shoes.
