Description: The Cincinnati, Portsmouth & Virginia Railroad (CP&V) was incorporated in Ohio in 1891. It was the former Ohio & Northwestern Railroad with a line from Idlewild to Sciotoville, Ohio, a distance of approximately 108 miles. It was acquired by the Norfolk & Western Railroad (N&W) in 1902, and surviving trackage is now part of Norfolk Southern. Items from the CP&V are seldom found, but I offer for auction a payroll receipt dated July 11, 1891. It is for $56.87, wages earned by a railroad employee at Batavia, Ohio. 1891 Cincinnati Portsmouth Virginia Railroad payroll receipt -Norfolk & Western Click image to enlarge Description The Cincinnati, Portsmouth & Virginia Railroad (CP&V) was incorporated in Ohio in 1891.
