Description: Beautifully written very rare antique retrospective book titled "Annals of a Quiet Valley in the Wordsworth Country" written by John Watson and published in 1894 by J.M. Dent and Company in London. It has a lovely gilded design on a cloth bound hardcover. Cover has scuffing, staining and creases. There are some areas of wear to the cloth around the edges and some tears at corners. The spine of the book is mostly intact and the pages all feel relatively secure but there are a couple of areas where there is some separation and the pages will lay flat allowing you to see the binding. Interior pages are somewhat delicate and have heavy staining throughout but are all very readable and the illustrations look great. The outside edges of pages all have some creasing and slight tearing. The author prefaces at the beginning that the contents mainly concern a single valley in the English Lake District composed of several watershed areas. The book reflects heavily on the lives and doings of the North race of yeoman, or statesman. It seems to carry a somber tone missing the days before the area was beginning to become modernized.
