Description: Sintram and His Companionsand Undine (1896) This is the book, Sintram and His Companions, and Undine. This is Victorian era literature written by Frederich De La Motte Fouque and published by Wells, Garner, Darlon & Co., of London in 1896. This is profusely illustrated by Gordon Brown.Fouqué's inspiration for this folk tale (originally published in 1814) was the engraving of The Knight, Death and the Devil by Dürer. As Undine represented spring, so Sintram represented winter and the whole story shivers with ice, snow, frost and bitter winds. Set in the late Middle Ages, it is a product of Fouqué's deep preoccupation with Norse literature, culture and mythology. The book is in good condition for age. There is wear to the cover, most significant at the corners, edges, and the head and tail of the spine. The outer hinges are generally intact. The inner hinges are cracked but holding. The binding is very good. The pages are in good condition with age-yellowing. The fly leaf shows this was a gift to Harriet Patterson of Lutsdale, PA., on Dec. 25, 1896.There are 279 pages plus pages advertising other books by the publisher. There is no writing inside. This book measures 9 by 6 1/2 inches. We ship on the next business day after purchase and we maintain an excellent ebay customer satisfaction rating.
