This is from "The American Dictionary and Cyclopedia" (1898). This is an original print, not a reproduction. This nice image measures approximately 6" x 8" on clay paper measuring approximate 8-1/2" x 11. James Gillespie Blaine (January 31, 1830 – January 27, 1893) was a U.S. Representative, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, U.S. Senator from Maine, two-time United States Secretary of State, and champion of the Half-Breeds. He was a dominant Republican leader of the post-Civil War period, obtaining the 1884 Republican nomination, but lost to Democrat Grover Cleveland. NOTE: This print has another portrait of Richard Doddridge Blackmore on reverse. It does NOT bleed through. Note: Most of the shading in the image (the corners) is a result of the photography.
