Description: Offered here are an autographed quotation and a business card of the famous 19th century Italian actor, Tommaso Salvini (1829-1915). Salvini was on the stage in Italy as well as Britain (where he played in Shakespeare opposite Edwin Booth) and the United States. The business card has what appears to be his handwritten "Compliments" on it. The autographed card, dated Firenze 23 maggio 1905, has an extensive quotation, which I have tried to interpret using Google Translate. It appears to say that like a butterfly (or maybe a moth?) is attracted to light and burns in the red-hot flame, so art draws Salvini and fires him with a "fatal desire". Please help me any Italian eBayers! The photograph, which was with the other items when I acquired them, is nothing more than a cut-out from a magazine article. The dimensions of the business card are 2 1/2 inches in height and 4 inches in width; those of the autographed quote are 3 1/2 inches in height by 6 3/4 inches in width. These items are from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Please read the condition description carefully and review the photographs. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". For example, offered maps are of the period. I do my best to accurately describe the items being sold, but if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
