Description: I have here for sale a book entitled TRANS-HIMALAYA Discoveries and Adventures in Tibet by SVEN HEDIN With 388 Illustrations from Photographs, Water Colour Sketches, and Drawings by the Author and 10 Maps in Two Volumes VOL II published by Macmillan and Co., Limited, London, in 1909. First edition. Between 1894 and 1908, in three daring expeditions through the mountains and deserts of Central Asia, Swedish explorer Sven Hedin mapped and researched parts of Chinese Turkestan and Tibet which had been unexplored by Europeans until then. This volume includes 5 colour plates and 90 b/w plates, including 2 that are fold-out, showing 172 illustrations. There are also 3 fold-out colour maps at the end of the book showing The Sources of the Brahmaputra, Sutlej, and Indus; the Trans-Himalaya; and a Map of Tibets showing Hedin's routes 1906-1908.Burgundy cloth boards with a gilt illustration of a man on the front board and with gilt lettering on the spine. Minor marks and wear to the boards with fraying at the top and bottom of the spine. Browning and foxing to the endpapers with a library label on the rear endpaper. Light foxing to pages. Both hinges are cracked but all pages are firm and the book is in very good overall condition. xvii, 441 pages. 23 x 16 cm.
