Born in Germany in 1878, Hoppe resided in London, England for most of his life and was arguably the most famous photographer in the world during the early twentieth century (he specialized in celebrity portraits early in his career). He created a masterful body of work covering a wide range of subject matter from modernist industrial scenes and landscapes to Art Deco style nudes.
