Miss Smith was recently nominated by the New York Exchange Club as the most popular girl in New York State. She is an accomplished pianist, and, outside of flying, makes a hobby of horseback riding. ----------- 4 ----------- I N THE history of the conquest of the Air the page of woman's achievement is a great one. The woman of today is something more than a wife to her husband. She is his friend, his companion, his playmate, and more often than not his business partner. The true develop- ment of the air sense of the nation de- pends just as much on the women of the country as on the men. We cannot ad- vance with a united front into the posi- tion of leadership in this new world that is ours by right, unless our women will support and help our men as they have always done in the past. Since the beginning of aeronautics, women have stood by men not alone in actual flying, but in the general develop- ment. The women of to- day are happily and naturally entering into this new world of sport which has been opened to them. There is noth- ing new in women flying and women wishing to fly. All through the ages the hope and wishes of man have been du- plicated in his sis- ter's heart.
