Description: Unusual "Knock Down" Circus / Carnival Punk Midway Game.C. 1930-40s. Extra Large 13" tall x 6" wide. Very heavy stiff canvas statuette with a double-sided screenprint character in three colors, red, green, black. Originally with a lambswool fringe perimeter, most has been eroded by time. Nice aged patina to the canvas surface, though one side has a light green painted background, maybe using excess scraps of canvas from the banners?Well balanced on its wooden base, with a hemmed edge at the bottom nailed numerously, for a tight clean edge. Some nailheads retain the original black paint, while others show oxidation. The base is marked "L" in silver metallic paint.Terrific example of early twentieth century folk art, carnival and circus history. VGC considering the use & abuse these pieces endured throughout their career. Being battered relentlessly, tossed into crates carelessly while being transported from one rural town to the next.
