Description: VERY NICE CONDITION FIRST EDITION OF, BRING 'EM BACK ALIVE BY FRANK BUCK, NOTED NATURALIST WHO BROUGHT BACK ANIMALS FOR ZOOS IN AMERICA, WHO NICELY AND GENERICALLY INSCRIBED THIS COPY!! FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, published by Simon & Schuster in 1930. This particular publisher did not follow careful guidelines in their early publications. Here is a blurb on First Edition Identification by Simon & Schuster found online: "First Editions are usually identified by the lack of information to the contrary. They usually make a note on the copyright page to the effect that it is the second printing, etc. Sometimes you may see a notice to the effect that the First Printing was done in ‘November,’ and the second in ‘December’, etc. In one or two rare cases their copyright page bears the legend ‘First Printing’. Usually you can tell the first printing by the fact that the copyright and title page have the same date. The term ‘First Edition’ or ‘First Printing’ was used to designate first edition from about 1952 to the early 1970s. A numbering system was then added where the ‘1’ would indicate a first printing." This particular book does not have a date on the title page, but as noted in this blurb, there is "...lack of information to the contrary" on the copyright page. So I will assume a FIRST PRINTING for this charming book. Boards with moderate corner and top/bottom spine wear, light edge wear, clear gilt titling and decoration on front board, and lightly rubbed gilt spine titling. Clean consistent red top topstain, very solidly bound with no endpaper cracking at all, 291 clean and solidly bound pages with glossy photo plates throughout, NICELY INSCRIBED AND SIGNED ON THE S&S FRONT ENDPAPER, "With the compliments of Frank Buck". The signature has not been authenticated but is consistent with other signatures easily found online. On Frank Buck from Wikipedia: "Frank Howard Buck (March 17, 1884 – March 25, 1950) was an American hunter, animal collector, and author, as well as a film actor, director, and producer. Beginning in the 1910s he made many expeditions into Asia for the purpose of hunting and collecting exotic animals, bringing over 100,000 live specimens back to the United States and elsewhere for zoos and circuses and earning a reputation as an adventurer. He co-authored seven books chronicling or based on his expeditions, beginning with 1930's Bring 'Em Back Alive, which became a bestseller." B53
