Description: 1934 Gallaher Ltd. "Champions" Series - Golf - Set of Six, #s 1, 30, 31 (2), 33,47 In 1934, Gallaher Ltd., a tobacco company based in London, created the "Champions" trading card series as a promotional insert for Park Drive cigarettes. The series was produced in both 1934 and 1935, and each series included 48 full-color cards, featuring portraits of champions in golf, tennis, boxing, or other sports. The front of each card displayed a champion's portrait, while the back included their name and a brief description of their achievements, written in red ink. The series was offered in two varieties: one with captions and one without, with the latter displaying only the portrait. These cards were similar in size to other tobacco sports cards of the era, measuring 1½” by 2½”. Currently available for purchase are six golfing cards from the 1934 "Champions" series. Four of the cards feature captions with the names Hon. Michael Scott, Miss Enid Wilson, P. Alliss, and C. J. H. Tolley, while the remaining two cards do not have captions and instead feature just the portraits of Densmore Shute and Miss Enid Wilson.The six cards are in great condition with the exception of Scott, card #1. His card has slight glue residue on the front and back. The residue does not show clearly in the listing photos.
