Description: 1934 Vintage Press Photo.Pilot Thomas Cusham in the "Knight Twister", s small "Vest Pocket" economy plane built by the Payne Engineering Company of Cicero, Illinois. The plane weights 400 pounds, is 11 1/2 feet in length, with a wing spread of 15 feet, has a 9 cylinder French Salmson Motor, and is claimed to have a cruising speed of 120 miles an hour, using only 3 gallons of gas an hour at that speed. The Payne Knight Twister is a single-seat, single-engine aerobatic sport aircraft first flown by Vernon Payne Sr. in the United States in 1932 and marketed in plans form for homebuilding.
