Description: Prussian State RM1000 Treasury Bond 1937 What You See Is What You Get Lot G27148 - In this lot you get: (1x) ℛℳ 1000 4½% 10 Year Prussian State Treasury Bond, issued 1937 ON OFFER: A superb example of a Prussian state loan bond ('schuldverschreibung') for 1000 Reichsmarks from the Third Reich era, issued in Berlin on 18 February 1937. Lithograph by the State Printing Office in Berlin in brown, black, blues and reds on A4 sized paper; intact seal. Punch cancel. No flaws. Watermark clear; paper crisp, clean, bright. The last 4 of their canceled VF+ certificates from the vaults of the former Reichsbank in Berlin were auctioned off by the German Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues (Bundesamt für zentrale Dienste und offene Vermögensfragen, or BADV,) through Spink & Son of London, in lot #252 of their November 2015 sale. The BADV announced that it would be the last sale of pre-1945 German government bonds from the famous 'Reichsbankschatz' hoard. What you see is what you get. Once the largest kingdom in the German Empire, following WWI and the Revolution, Prussia became the largest of the Federal States of the Weimar Republic. Although the revolution had stripped away many of the powers formerly reserved to the states under the Empire, they retained much of their domestic fiscal autonomy under the new Republic and during the Hitler dictatorship. After WWII, the state of Prussia was consigned to the dust heap of history, absorbed as it was into the Soviet Union, Poland, the German Democratic Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1953 West Germany assumed responsibility for Prussian state debt under the terms of the London Agreement. That debt was retired in the early 2000s.
