Description: 1938 Vintage Photo by ACME. Laboratory at Caltech, Pasadena, California, where the 200 inch lens for Mt. Palomar is being ground (Fig. A) 200 inch lens in grinding machine (Fig. B) first test lens, this lens was made to try to grinding machine out. (Fig. C) Grinder which was used for test lens. Men working in the lab on the 200 inch lens must changed in to white uniforms before going to work. The lab is air conditioned, this is to prevent all small particles from getting in the room. The California Institute of Technology is a private doctorate-granting research university in Pasadena, California. Known for its strength in natural science and engineering, Caltech is often ranked as one of the world's top-ten universities. Photo is Dated: April 11, 1938.
