1940 Press Photo WWII Randolph Field Mechanics Work On Training Airplane Engine

Description: 1940 Original Press Photo."Keep 'em Flying" is crew chief's slogan at Randolph Field. For every hour that an Air Corps plane is aloft, tedious hours of careful checking over by the ground crew is needed. With the accelerated pilot training program nearing its peak at Uncle San's giant "West Point of the Air" at Randolph Field, Texas, the 300-odd training planes are flying as much as 125 hours per month per plane. Highly trained mechanics swarm over the craft between flights, making minor adjustments. Staff Sergeant R.J. Martin, veteran air mechanic of the 52nd School Squadron, right, supervises an inspection on the engine of his training plane. To the extreme left are Sergeant J.C. Lucus and Private J.E. Norman.
