Description: 1947 Reds Program REESE PUTS ARM AROUND JACKIE ROBINSON Brooklyn DODGERS NM THIS SCORECARD IS FROM THE MAY 13TH, 1947 GAME FEATURING THE BROOKLYN DODGERS AND THE CINCINNATI REDS. IN THIS GAME THE CINCINNATI FANS WERE RAINING DOWN RACIAL SLURS TOWARDS JACKIE ROBINSON UNTIL STAR SHORTSTOP PEE WEE REESE WENT OVER AND PUT HIS ARM AROUND ROBINSON AS A SHOW OF SUPPORT FOR HIS TEAMMATE. ROBINSON WAS OF COURSE THE FIRST BLACK PLAYER TO EVER PLAY MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. THIS WAS NOT ONLY A HISTORIC MOMENT IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL BUT ALSO IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA. THERE ARE NOT MANY OF THESE FLOATING AROUND. THE REDS WON THIS GAME 7-5 AS JOHNNY VANDER MEER GOT THE WIN AND HARRY TAYLOR TOOK THE LOSS. THE REDS MANAGED ONLY 5 HITS IN THE GAME BUT WERE GIVEN 8 WALKS. BERT HAAS LED THE REDS WITH 3 HITS WHILE FRANK BAUMHOLTZ, TOMMY TATUM AND BOBBY ADAMS ADDED A HIT EACH. BRUCE EDWARDS LED THE DODGERS WITH 3 HITS, PETE REISER, CARL FURILLO AND REESE ADDED 2 HITS EACH AND ROBINSON, ARKY VAUGHAN, STAN ROJEK AND DUKE SNIDER ADDED A HIT EACH. PLEASE READ THE COMPLETE STORY IN THE LAST 4 SCANS! THIS SCORECARD IS VERY NICE AND STRONG.
