All five volumes are 1st printings with Colophon and Scribner A on copyright page and are all slipcased, as issued. Vols I & II in a unique slipcase with pictorial paper title labels, as are Vols II & IV. Volume V in a single volume slipcase with matched pictorial and typographic attachments. Uniformly bound in navy blue cloth with title designs brightly in gilt to spines. Uniformly bright, snug and clean; illustrated with maps, portraits and views. Volume I has a few small white drip spots to the spine; Vol II & III with a single such drip spot. Mild handling soil to boards of first two volumes. The two volume slipcases are a little rubbed at edges with partial splits at one or two seams reinforced with archival paper tissue tape. An overall handsome and well preserved set, lacking only the last volume written by Freeman and the 7th book published posthumously and written by others. VG or better in near VG slipcases.
