New York: Actress Gloria Swanson is shown modeling the world's most expensive dress, made of 100,000 cultured pearls and valued at $100,000 which the Imperial Pearl Syndicate is donating to the Damon Runyon Fund for cancer research. From the time she left her Fifth Avenue apartment and during the showing to the press at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, Miss Swanson was shadowed by armed guards. The gown will be shown at benefits throughout the country and will go to the Runyon fund upon completion of its tour. It took 15 years to gather the pre-war cultured pearls which went into the dress. Three months were required to drill the holes in the pearls and eight dressmakers worked two months to complete the dress, which weighs approximately 27 pounds. Photo measures 7.25 x 9inches.
