ABOUT THE PRINT This painting ranks among those that German artist Walter Gotschke considered his best work on one of his most-studied subjects: the Mercedes-Benz racing car in action. Gotschke's impressionistic gouaches were painstakingly researched and rendered to portray the true character of the car and the racing style and personality of each racing driver in dramatic racing situations. Gotschke's first race sketches were published in 1929 when he was seventeen years old, and he continued to paint thrilling automobile races scenes into his 70s.
