The cutting edge (adze) has a shaped termed "scalloped," a series of small curves. The 35-40 degree bevel is on the inside. When cutting steps in hard ice, it isused to shatter the ice. On glaciers the point is used to probe for hidden crevasses. Its overall length is 32"... Ice Axes were long by today's standards ConditionThis ice axe is in great shape. All the connections are tight as ever. The shaft shows some sruface at worst. The adze and pick point could use some sharpening...and polishing if you choose. This axe could be used today though...it feels solid and well balanced. BUT this is not recommended as modern shaft materials are significantly more durable. Maybe on an easy hike in hte ice and snow would be fine?
