Description: Here's your chance to bid on a 1961 Fleer Baseball Greats card featuring rugged catcher Ray Mueller of the Cincinnati Reds. Mueller broke into big league ball with the Boston Braves in 1935 - he was a team mate of Babe Ruth - and was traded to the Pirates before joining the Reds in 1943. Mueller spent the 1945 season in the military and finished up his career with the Giants and again the Pirates and Braves, retiring after the 1951 season. He was an All-Star game player in 1944 when he played all 155 games for the Reds. After spending time in the service, he extended his consecutive game streak to 246, unheard of for a catcher. The 1961 Fleer baseball set consists of 154 cards, each measuring 2-1/2" x 3-1/2", and each commemorating the career of Hall of Fame inductees or other hero of the National Pastime. Issued in two series, each card bears a full-color portrait resting against a colored background. A pennant-shaped logo at the bottom of the card bears a full-color portrait resting against a striped lower border. As with Fleer's 1960 set, the 1961 collection focused on past players due to Topps' monopoly on cards featuring current players.
