The bridge spans the Sill River, and forms part of the main route across the Alps from western Austria to South Tyrol in Italy. It is also part of the main route between southeastern Germany and northern Italy. The longest span between pillars is 198 metres (650 ft)______________________ The Nordkette, also variously called the North Chain, Northern Range, rarely the Inn Valley Range or Inn Valley Chain (Inntalkette), is a range of mountains just north of the city of Innsbruck in Austria. It is the southernmost of the four great mountain chains in the Karwendel. To the west it is linked by the Erl Saddle to the Erlspitze Group, to the east via the Stempeljoch saddle (2,215 m (AA)) to the Gleirsch-Halltal Range. To the south it is bounded by the Inn valley. Its highest summit is the Kleiner Solstein (2,637 m (AA)) in the west of the range. The Nordkette is served by the Nordkette Cable Car, which offers easy access to the ski area and the Innsbruck Klettersteig. The latter starts in the east, near Hafelekar station (2,269 m (AA)) on the Nordkette Cable Car, and runs via the Seegrubenspitze, the Kemacher and the Langen Sattel to Frau Hitt and the Frau Hitt Saddle in the west. In addition, the Goethe Way (Goetheweg) runs from Hafelekar Station along the arête eastwards to the Pfeis Hut north of the Rumer Spitze. Below the Hungerburg - Seegrube section of the Nordkette Cableway runs the Nordkette Singletrail, one of the most challenging routes in Europe for freeride mountain bikers.______________________ Maria -Theresien-Straße, named after Empress Maria Theresa , is a wide, slightly curved boulevard and shopping street and a central street in Innsbruck , dating back to the first expansion of the city in the 13th century. It is one of the busiest streets in the city. The street is around 490 m long [ 1 ] and runs slightly curved in a north-south direction. The northern end is the intersection with Burggraben and Marktgraben, beyond which Herzog-Friedrich-Straße leads into the old town. The southern end of the street and the border with Wilten is the Triumphal Arch at the intersection with Maximilianstraße and Salurner Straße. The continuation to the south is Leopoldstraße. Anichstraße branches off to the west and Meraner Straße to the east as cross streets. There are passageways in the east to Sparkassenplatz and Landhausplatz and in the west through the town hall galleries to Adolf-Pichler-Platz.______________________ The Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) is a landmark structure located in the Old Town (Altstadt) section of Innsbruck, Austria. It is considered the city's most famous symbol. Completed in 1500, the roof was decorated with 2,657 fire-gilded copper tiles for Emperor Maximilian I to mark his wedding to Bianca Maria Sforza. The Emperor and his wife used the balcony to observe festivals, tournaments, and other events that took place in the square below.______________________ Axamer Lizum is a village and ski resort in Austria, located southwest of Innsbruck in the state of Tyrol. At the 1964 Winter Olympics, it hosted five of the six alpine skiing events: women's downhill, and men's and women's slalom and giant slalom. Men's downhill was held at Patscherkofel. Twelve years later in 1976, it hosted exactly the same alpine skiing events. The ski area is well known for a large variety of options to ski or snowboard off the marked piste. The highest location of the ski area is the mountain Hoadl with an altitude of 2,340 m, which is relatively high for a ski area in this region of the Alps. Thus, the Axamer Lizum has a reputation to be among the last (non glacier-based) ski resorts in the north of Tyrol which have sufficient snow for winter sport at the end of winter. ______________________ 1964 & 1976 Olympiastadt Olympic Winter Games Innsbruck AUSTRIA Vintage Postcard
