Description: OCT OCTOBER 7TH, 1965 NY YANKEES VS ST LOUIS CARDINALS AT BUSCH STADIUM IN ST LOUIS WHITEY FORD THROWS HIS WS RECORD 94TH STRIKEOUT IN THIS GAME IT WOULD BE THE LAST WS GAME HE PITCHED IN DURING HIS ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER THIS WAS THE 1ST GAME OF THE SERIES THAT THE CARDINALS WON GOING ON TO WIN 3 MORE AND TO CLINCH THEIR 7TH WS TITLE Whitey Ford, always a postseason standout, held onto a 4-2 lead going into the sixth inning of the opener, but St. Louis right fielder Mike Shannon hammered a long two run homer off the veteran lefty and when catcher Tim McCarver followed with a double, the thirty-five year-old Ford was through for the day, and (because of arm problems) the Series. The 9-5 loss of Game 1 as well as their #1 ace should have been a sign for what was to come as the Yanks were now experiencing a new kind of streak… a losing one. The opening fiasco was their fifth consecutive loss in World Series play and for the first time (in a long time) the Yankees were the underdogs PSA GRADED EX 5 & SLABBED there are only 2 graded higher, a 6 and a 7 VERY RARE!
