Description: The Green Hornet lasted just one season on ABC-TV in 1966 - 1967 but it had a lasting impact upon American culture. Van Williams was the star of the show, having starred in a couple of early 1960s shows, and when ABC scored big with Batman, they wanted to revive the 1940s radio serial masked hero Green Hornet but done seriously, unlike Batman. They asked Batman creator William Dozier to do it. Dozier wanted Van Williams. But the Green Hornet's sidekick Kato, a martial arts expert who used his 'Gung Fu' moves on the bad guys, was the real star of the show, and introduced Lee and his art to a whole new, huge audience of Americans. Lee's legend would only continue to grow with films like 'Enter the Dragon', and his untimely death only six years after the show ended, and his hybrid form of martial arts he called Jeet Kune Do that many consider to be the foundation of today's MMA phenomenon. There wouldn't be a UFC without Bruce Lee. Here is a superb high-grade set of 1966 Green Hornet. Produced by Donruss but not noted on the card backs, PSA simply labels them as Green Hornet. The hard work has been done. Every card has been certified by PSA. All you need to do now is upgrade if you want, or for the re-seller, there is tremendous break value. This was Bruce Lee's first cardboard appearance and as such, any card he appears on is considered by many to be his 'ROOKIE' card. That is how many of them are being sold and they are one of the main appeals to the set. Well, there are 23 of the 44 that the martial arts legend appears on, several of those showing him in action with his 'Gung Fu' moves. These are numbers 4, 6, 7, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 37, 38, 39, 40, 42, 44. I have imaged the fronts of all 44 cards. Due to eBay limitations, I did not image any of the backs. There's not a lot to see as, in addition to some brief text, they make up a puzzle (or maybe more than one). Included is a nice example of a wax pack wrapper. I have imaged it folded, as it came to me in a Card Saver IV, and I carefully removed it and scanned it, unfolded, on both sides. Also imaged is a 'bonus' Bruce Lee card #16, in PSA 7 The card as part of the set is a PSA 7.5 that PSA has mislabeled as a sticker, and it is not. Donruss did not issue Green Hornet stickers, Topps did, but there seems to be some confusion on this with some collectors. Perhaps the person that submitted this card listed it as a sticker on the submission form and PSA didn't catch it. As for the few cards with qualifiers: #1, the stain is on the back, small and rectangular and from a piece of gum, and very hard to see unless held at an angle in good light. #2 is shown as MC - miscut, and this appears to affect only the back, because the front centering is not bad. #4, the stain is nearly impossible to see in the dark background of the puzzle portion. #5, stain on back, again very hard to see, at the top of the puzzle portion. #14, again, very hard to spot, in the puzzle portion. These are ALL very sharp cards with minor flaws - NOTHING like the ugly gum and wax stains vintage card collectors know only too well. Unfortunately, scans will not show these flaws. If you want an attempt at any, ask and I'll try. Free insured shipping in the US. *** I also have, and will be listing down the road, so you can contact me if interested, some Van Williams autographs. I can provide scans on request. 2013 Topps 75th Anniversary (picturing Williams on #23 from the 1966 Topps sticker set) with an authentic signature in blue marker. Van Williams passed away in 2016. And this one is really special. 2012 Leaf Cut Signature Edition was one of the hottest tickets in collecting that year, with autograph cuts from not only sports but important people in history and a large number from the field of entertainment. Each cut was affixed to a card and encased by Beckett, who did the certifications for Leaf. There were many 1/1 signature cuts but edition sizes per signer went as high as into the 20s for some. Leaf obtained 4 cuts for Van Williams for this series. Incredibly, I have all four of them, each slabbed and numbered individually by Beckett, 1/4, 2/4 etc. Whoever consigned them to my auction source must have looked long and hard to get their hands on all of them. There are not any of these cards out there because here are the only ones. I really do not want to sell singles, as I think the group, intact, is worth more.
